About Fitzsimons

Partnering From The Start

Fitzsimons Army Hospital (FAH) Federal Credit Union opened in 1955 with only 15 members and $360 in assets. Our mission, even with limited resources, was to provide trusted, local financial services to our community. We were able to accomplish that dream, and for 40 years we provided services primarily for active service members, local veterans, healthcare workers of Fitzsimons Army Hospital, National Jewish Health and their families. Serving those who serve is part of our legacy.

In 1995, the U.S. Army announced that they would be closing the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. In order to continue providing financial services to our membership, we applied to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to become a community charter, allowing us to expand our membership to the wider Aurora community.

For the last 25 years since the expansion, we’ve been proud to welcome many more members from across the Aurora community. In order to emphasize our commitment to an equal partnership between credit union board of directors, supervisory committees, employees, and members, we now serve as “Fitzsimons Federal Credit Union – a partnering credit union”.

A Small Business That’s Making A Big Difference

We started with $360. Today, we have assets around $200 million. We’re able to provide better rates on loans and better returns on savings to our members more now than ever. But no matter how much we’ve grown, we’re still committed to providing trusted, local financial services to our community.

Our recent efforts to serve the undeserved have not gone unnoticed. In 2016, Fitzsimons Credit Union received the Juntos Avanzamos (Together We Advance) designation by the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions for our dedicated efforts to serve the Hispanic and Latinx community. A year later, we were honored with an Excellence in Lending Award by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for being the best of the best in lending, serving those of low to modest means.  And we continued to help those in need by making over $300,000 in emergency loans to members during the 2020 pandemic.
